At Belleville Counseling Associates, we believe the
health and happiness of children and families is key
to the health of any community. We also know that
raising children can be difficult, full of challenges that
parents never expected. That's why we offer a
program to help children and their parents or
caregivers learn how to have a better relationship.
Our behavioral program is effective for Pre-school
to elementary school age children, ages 3-12, with
the following specific behavioral problems:
This is an intensive therapy program lasting approximately 12 weeks (more sessions are sometimes added for more
intensive problems) which includes individual work with parents/caregivers and family work with parents/caregivers
and the child. Through this program, parents are taught to notice, attend to, and reward a child’s desired behaviors.
Parents are then taught to reduce a child’s undesired behaviors through ignoring, correct use of time-outs, and
removal of privileges. We model all of these techniques in session with parents/caregivers and children to assure their
capacity to use the techniques where they really count—at home. The techniques are fun for the children—we use
games, role-playing, and incentives to make the therapy sessions a positive experience for both children and parents.
The techniques used in this behavioral training program have been researched by top professionals in the field and
have been proven over time to be consistently effective in improving behavior. The overall goal of this program is to
improve the child’ and family’s quality of life through replacing negative cycles of interactions, with positive, happier
interactions between child and parents/caregivers.
